TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 An area for celebration quickly turned into a what some thought was a crime scene when at least one shot was fired on Troy’s campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Troy University Police Department (TUPD<\/a>) responded to an emergency Saturday night, in which a female student sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident just before 9:30 p.m. directly in front of the Trojan Wellness and Fitness Center, just off George Wallace Drive, shortly after Troy\u2019s season-opening football win over Nicholls State on campus. <\/p>\n\n\n

Anna McKnight, a senior rehabilitation and disabilities studies major from Montgomery, Alabama, was nearby when she heard the commotion. TUPD said a single shot was fired. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI saw a group of people crowding together,\u201d McKnight said. \u201cI heard two loud pops, and I didn\u2019t think anything of it. I thought it was firecrackers, but then people started running. I knew something was wrong when that happened.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 9:30 p.m., an Omnilert alert was sent out notifying students of an active emergency and advising them to avoid the area and seek shelter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWithin maybe a minute, five police cars showed up along with an ambulance and a firetruck,\u201d McKnight said. \u201cThe police told everyone to back away from Tailgate Terrace. They closed off the entire area with caution tape. I saw the ambulance take someone away.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a media release from TUPD, police confirmed a female student had suffered what was believed to be a non-life-threatening injury to her foot. She was immediately transported for medical care.  <\/p>\n\n\n

At 10:19 p.m. another Omnilert alert was sent out assuring students that there was no ongoing threat, but to stay clear of the Trojan Fitness Center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have not identified a suspect or determined a motive. The case is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact TUPD at 334-670-3215. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
