(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 It\u2019s been over one week since <a href=\"https:\/\/tpusa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Turning Point USA<\/a> (TPUSA) founder, Charlie Kirk, was killed while debating students at Utah Valley University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Troy, student leaders from both sides of the political spectrum are speaking out against political violence.&nbsp;According to the National Library of Medicine, political violence is defined as the use of harm with the intent to achieve political goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some say the death of Charlie Kirk is the latest form of this violence. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tpusatroy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Turning Point USA at Troy<\/a> President, Caitlyn Harris, shared her response to those who celebrate Kirk\u2019s death.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe see so many people saying he deserved to die,\u201d said Harris. \u201cI say shame on you to anyone who says that and not just to Charlie. America was never meant to be a country that we should be scared to share our political views. That goes both ways.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/troyudemocrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> College Democrats of Troy University<\/a> Marckus Cooper says he condemns all forms of political violence. Cooper also explained the steps that his organization took right after Kirk\u2019s death.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2025\/09\/19\/charlie-kirk-remembered-during-on-campus-vigil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Charlie Kirk remembered during on-campus vigil<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe rhetoric is very hot right now and anyone in the political scene needs to take the proper steps in cooling it down,\u201d Cooper said. \u201cWe released a statement, as Troy University Democrats, that essentially said that. We essentially also condemned any type of political violence based on if we agree with those ideologies or not.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As political leaders on campus,  Cooper and Harris weighed in of if they feel afraid of voicing their political opinions publicly.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJust as John Robert Lewis said, make good trouble,\u201d said Cooper. \u201cSpeak up for the things that you believe in and don\u2019t let anyone stop you based on how they believe you\u2019re affecting the political space.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have faith that I\u2019m doing the right thing,\u201d said Harris. \u201cI\u2019m going to keep doing the right thing.
