TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 College Democrats of Troy University<\/a> held its first meeting of the semester. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

AshLeigh Meyer Dunham, a trial referee in Jefferson County\u2019s Juvenile Court and a candidate for the Alabama Supreme Court, spoke to the organization about women\u2019s reproductive health in Alabama.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI decided I was going to run because of the decision that stopped IVF in the state of Alabama,\u201d Dunham said. \u201cI thought that this is something that I, as a democrat, can run on and win on.\u00a0Even across partisan lines, it\u2019s something that mostly everyone can agree on.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dani Kimbrough, a freshman criminal justice major from Athens, Alabama, is a member of College Democrats of Troy University. Kimbrough said women\u2019s reproductive rights are a top priority for her.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen I found out that Roe v. Wade was overturned, I was shocked,\u201d Kimbrough said. \u201cIt was shocking to me because I found out even if the public doesn\u2019t want something, our government will do it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cI made a very life-changing decision based on the politics that were happening in this state at the time and got my tubes tied at eighteen years old. To hear Ashley Meyer Dunham, someone who wants to be an elected official, acknowledge reproductive rights is very meaningful to me.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

President of College Democrats of Troy University Markcus Cooper, who is a junior global business major from Bainbridge, Georgia, said being an advocate of women\u2019s reproductive rights is important, even as male.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s important for us to stay educated on this topic, especially as active members in achieving political indifference,\u201d Cooper said. \u201cWhy should we, as males, stand aside and not stand up for what is right?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWomen\u2019s reproductive health is women\u2019s health; it\u2019s not a spectrum. It\u2019s one of the most important things to women. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStaying in active conversation while also staying educated on this topic is very important, especially for myself as a male,\u201d said Cooper.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
