(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/academics\/colleges-schools\/college-arts-humanities\/departments\/hall-school-journalism-communication\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hall School of Journalism and Communication<\/a> (HSJC) invited high school students from around southern Alabama to participate in J-Day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the event, college students, professors, and professional journalists alike shared their knowledge and experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J-Day has been a crucial event for the Hall School of Journalism. Every year, it recruits students for the university, HSJC, and its student organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is a great recruitment tool here at Troy University,\u201d said Dr. Stefanie East, a professor in the Hall School of Journalism and Director of J-Day. \u201cI cannot tell you how many students I\u2019ve had in my classes that have said, \u2018Dr. East, I came here because of J-Day, or \u2018I want to be a J-Day ambassador because I was here when I was a high school student.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2025\/09\/25\/troy-public-radio-reacts-to-federal-funding-cuts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>NEWS FOR YOU: Troy Public Radio reacts to federal funding cuts<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students attended workshops where they learned the ins and outs of being a journalist, techniques behind design and photography, interviewing, and hands-on experience that is available at Troy. Each workshop lasted around an hour to give students a full understanding of what they were learning.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students even participated in mock broadcasts in the Trojanvision studio. One student, Haley Hust, got to anchor at TrojanVision\u2019s news desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI heard about it [J-Day]&nbsp; from my school, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to learn more about the field I want to work in,\u201d said Hust, a high school senior.&nbsp; \u201cIt\u2019s been really exciting and a little nerve-racking, but it\u2019s so great to try something new and continue learning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Advisors and student staff from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/student-life-resources\/campus-media\/troy-trojanvision\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TrojanVision<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tropnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> the Tropolitan<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/student-life-resources\/campus-media\/palladium.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Palladium<\/a> also spoke to students about pursuing student media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey get to come here, they get to see the facilities that we have,\u201d said East.\u00a0&#8220;Our state-of-the-art broadcast system, the amazing yearbook staff that we have, our amazing newspaper with the Tropolitan, and they get really excited about being ethical and telling fantastic stories to people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 250 students from eight different high schools learned from Troy\u2019s journalism staff. Awards for broadcast, yearbook, and multimedia were also given to recipients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hall School of Journalism has held J-Day for over a decade and plans to continue in the coming years, connecting students through the power of telling stories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
