(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014\u00a0For the next few days, Troy University Police Chief George Beaudry will be teaching faculty and staff how to identify, prevent, and respond to a mass attack situation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Beaudry, having a plan is the first step toward survival at any location. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen I go to any&nbsp;location, I\u2019ll use my church as an example, I want to look around at the exits,\u201d Beaudry said. \u201cIf someone came through the door to harm us, what would I do? &nbsp;It doesn\u2019t even have to be a mass attacker; it could be a fire.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe key is whenever there is a significant incident, if you haven\u2019t planned ahead of time, you are less likely to respond in a quick enough manner to make a difference.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRun, Hide, Fight\u201d is Troy\u2019s widely used guidance for mass attack situations. Run and hide are the ideal actions, both of which would get a person to safety.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2025\/09\/10\/tupd-makes-safety-measure-suggestions-for-veterans-memorial-stadium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>SAFETY NEWS: TUPD makes safety suggestions for Veterans Memorial Stadium<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Beaudry, the final step, fight, is the last resort.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI believe that we don\u2019t need to fight that person; we need to stop that person,\u201d Beaudry said. \u201cWe need to kill that person. That is the way to ensure that he is not going to shoot anybody else that day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI know it sounds harsh, but when you\u2019re at that level, you fight to the death.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">David Kirby, a lecturer in the Hall School of Journalism, attended the training. He said the presentation served as a safety refresher. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSince there have been mass shootings on campuses in the years that I have been teaching at a college, I\u2019ve always kind of had it on my radar,\u201d Kirby said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beaudry also told TrojanVision that an active shooter drill on Troy\u2019s campus is still in the works. As of now, there is&nbsp;no timeline for the drill. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief Beaudry will be giving the same presentation on the Dothan campus&nbsp;Tuesday as well as Wednesday on the Montgomery campus. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
