TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Tables full of pumpkins, carving tools, and happy students filled the Trojan Center patio as the University Honors Global Scholars<\/a> (UHGS) program hosted its inaugural pumpkin carving event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Atlas Barr, one of the event organizers, said this Fall theme gathering was all about connecting with people from outside of America and to embrace diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s a first year program and our goal is just to connect honor students with people from outside of America and just embrace diversity beyond all groups.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For members of the organization, the event was more than just carving pumpkins. It was about carving out time for connection and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I think it’s really important because, instead of the stress that all your classes give you and just having to study in all the exams, especially during midterms, having a sense of community and like little small events like carving pumpkins, it’s like really good for you,” said UHGS member Cailee Traywick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members were not the only people who enjoyed the fun. Students from all over campus joined in, too. From creative designs to trial and error, students said the event gave them a chance to online, connect, and celebrate the season one pumpkin at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I’d never carved a pumpkin before, so I thought it would be a fun uh after activity after my classes, so I RSVP’d,” participant Heather Gladwell said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether it was for fun, friendship, or Fall spirit, organizers hope events like this remind students that sometimes it is the little traditions that make college memories last the longest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
