TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Highschool students interested in attending Troy University<\/a> filled Trojan Arena for the Fall semester Trojan Day on Saturday, starting their day off with a browse session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trojan Day<\/a> is a semesterly event dedicated to welcoming and introducing prospective students to Troy University. The first event of the day, the browse session, allows these high schoolers to see what majors, clubs, and organizations<\/a> Troy offers. One current Troy student believes this event is the most crucial of the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s so important to get involved starting early at college,” said Katherine Gorton, a current Troy student at the Sorrell College of Business<\/a>. “You want to build up your resume and start freshman year. Get everything that you can, meet as many people as possible, have as many experiences as possible. That way when you graduate you can really stand out and have that competitive advantage.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the high school students in attendance said it was exciting to see all of the opportunities offered by Troy and meet people that are willing to help her get involved.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI feel like all the people around me are helping me and trying to guide me on what I want to do,” said Zamiah Smith. “That kind of like rearranged my mind and like made me think widely about what I want to do in college. The opportunities here at Troy are like actually making me excited.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior Director of Enrollment<\/a> Management, Gus McKenzie always plans this event with the hope that students will find community and a sense of belonging at Troy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI hope it\u2019s the connections they make while they\u2019re here,” McKenzie said. “It\u2019s at least one faculty person that they meet that they can really gravitate towards that going to help them throughout their next four years.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All in all, Trojan Day allows these future students to explore the reality of Troy University in hopes that they\u2019re inspired to join the Trojan Family instead of writing it off.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs Dr. Hawkins likes to say, we need to take the bushel basket off the light of Troy, so getting students on our campus does a great deal in showing them what we have to offer,” McKenzie said. “They may not know the wonderful facilities, or the wonderful people here, until they come and meet them.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rest of the events for Trojan Day included walking tours across campus, lunch at the dining hall and free entry into the Troy versus Louisiana football game. The next Trojan Day will take place in the 2026 Spring Semester and have the same schedule, barring the football game since the team will be out of season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
