(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 With federal food assistance at risk of losing funding, many families across the country are turning to food banks to help meet their needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Troy, one pantry is already seeing changes. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troyresilienceproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Troy Resilience Project<\/a> (TRP) is a social service organization dedicated to helping those in need. TRP gets food donations from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saintmarkstroy.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">St. Mark\u2019s Episcopal Church<\/a>, which is a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/hafb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Heart of Alabama Food Bank<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TRP Executive Director Maggie Doss said the government shutdown has caused an uptick in families needing food. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve already seen a huge increase in families coming to access our food pantry,\u201d Doss said. \u201cYesterday, within the first hour of the announcement, we cleared out the food pantry.\u00a0Luckily, we got food again today. Typically, we get fifteen bags of food at a time.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were already down to five or seven bags the last time I checked.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2025\/10\/21\/hundreds-march-on-montgomerys-streets-for-no-kings-protest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>LOCAL NEWS: Hundreds march on Montgomery\u2019s streets for No Kings Protest<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Doss, TRP serves food to around forty to seventy families each month. She expects that number to increase once SNAP benefits disappear on November the first. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI know for a fact that the families we serve every month will be here, but I know hundreds of families in Pike County are going to be without food,\u201d Doss said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though the government shutdown has caused&nbsp;food insecurity for some, Doss is determined to keep mouths fed. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very scary,\u201d Doss said. \u201cI don\u2019t know what we\u2019re going to do as an agency to try to combat this.\u00a0I know that my team is going to do everything that we can together food to as many families as we can.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To donate to TRP, readers\u00a0can drop off non-perishable food items and toiletries at 401 S.
