TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>)\u00a0\u2014 The Troy University Concert Chorale filled Long Hall with harmony and heart during its semester performance,\u00a0“How Beloved Is Your Dwelling Place.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weeks of hard work and dedication led up to Wednesday night\u2019s concert, which centered around the theme of\u00a0home\u00a0\u2014 exploring the people, places, and moments that make us feel grounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening began with a dramatic entrance as choir members surrounded the audience, creating a full, immersive sound. Two soloists stood at the front of the room, setting the tone for the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a bit nerve-racking but also exciting to be the part that set the tone for the show,\u201d said soloist\u00a0Tori Hinson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choir Director\u00a0Dr. Michael J. Mills\u00a0said each piece was chosen to reflect a different side of what \u201chome\u201d can mean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s about how we find home in various ways \u2014 whether it\u2019s about the people we are with or the things that we do,\u201d Mills said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the night\u2019s highlights was a special arrangement of\u00a0“Take Me Home, Country Roads”\u00a0by Dr. Mills, which quickly became an audience favorite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI would say my favorite part was when they did\u00a0‘Country Roads’\u00a0with the accompaniment underneath it,\u201d said audience member\u00a0Alexander Jensen. \u201cThat was really nice to hear.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind the smooth harmonies and polished performance were hours of rehearsal and preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe rehearse three times a week, and we had our dress rehearsal before the performance,\u201d Hinson said. \u201cIt took a lot of practice and memorization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the final notes echoed through Long Hall, Mills reflected with pride on his students\u2019 work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI loved what they did tonight,\u201d Mills said. \u201cNot only did they exhibit all of the hard work they put into it, but they put a large portion of themselves into the music. You could see it in their faces and hear it in the way they sang.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who missed the performance will have another chance to hear the ensemble soon. The Concert Chorale will perform again at Troy University\u2019s annual\u00a0Campus Tree Lighting\u00a0later this semester.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
