TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Local media members are remembering Desmond Wingard<\/a>, a former student news director and alumni of TrojanVision who lost his battle to cancer last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TrojanVision Director of Television and long-time friend of Wingard, Aaron Taylor, shared what it was like working with Wingard as a student at what was then TSU-TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He was the boss,” Taylor said. “He knew what he was doing, he was organized. You know some of us were goofballs. You know, we were working but Desmond was the guy who held it all together. He was out news director. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At the time, he wanted to be a producer, he wanted to be the one that was running things and running the show and we let him.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To others Wingard wasn\u2019t just a co-worker, he embodied what friendship and service meant those around him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He was this guy that, yes he was very passionate about journalism but he was also a wonderful friend who wanted to engage with people and spend real quality time with them and be with his friends and family,” said Dr. Robbyn Taylor, Director of the Hall School of Journalism and Communication. “It was interesting to me that work was so important to him but he still found a way to make time for the people that mattered.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The morning Wingard passed was a morning unlike any other at TrojanVision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Every single student in the studio stopped doing what they were doing and we huddled around the televisions,” Student News Director Simon Brown said. “We were glued to the screens, nobody said a word, it was the quietest I had ever heard it here at TrojanVision. And I think that sound speaks volumes.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
