TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 The Trojans took to the volleyball court<\/a> with playoffs on the line Friday night against Southern Miss to start their last home series of the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amiah Butler<\/a> had a stellar performance with 25 kills alongside Ella Broadhead<\/a> who had a .450 hitting percentage and 10 blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cElla was fantastic tonight start to finish,” said head coach Josh Lauer<\/a>. “When Amiah kind of got on track and OC was digging balls like all of a sudden, it kind of got together there and allowed us to kind of get over, I think a little bit of competitive jitters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Madison Marx<\/a> and Jordan Sinness<\/a> also shined, each putting up a double double. The match started slow with troy dropping sets one and three before completing the 3 to 2 comeback. Saturday night marked senior night for the team. Coach Lauer spoke on what this group of seniors has meant to the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis group of seniors has won a lot since they’ve been here on the court,” said Lauer. “They are amazing young women period, they have had one of the highest GPA’s of any class we have ever had over the course of four years, right? They are all going on to great things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“After graduation, they have improved our team culture every year. Our team culture is better than maybe it’s ever been.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the Friday night win, Saturday’s game determines whether or not the Trojans make the Sun Belt Conference Tournament\u00a0after the regular season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen I first got here in 2017, the Sun Belt Conference was hanging out around 16 out of 32 as far as conference ranking,” Lauer said. “The last two years has been number six. This year it’s number seven, like this is a legit volleyball conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So, it is a great accomplishment. If we can get in the conference tournament, so it’s a big deal tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troy did go on to win Saturday and will be the fourth seed of the Western Division.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
