TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 The Student Government Association (<\/a>SGA) gathered\u00a0in the senate chamber to recognize their biggest accomplishments of the semester on Wednesday. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the second and final press conference of the semester, members of the executive council, presidential cabinet and the University Honors Global Scholars Program\u00a0assembled to recognize what SGA President Caleb Smith said was an unprecedented semester. 12 pieces of legislation were passed by the senate and signed into law.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Smith, two of those pieces became major legislative accomplishments.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe had a lot of major pieces of legislation,\u201d Smith said. \u201cI feel like the safety resolution\u00a0holds the most weight.\u00a0In that resolution, we asked the\u00a0university to implement metal detectors and clear bag policies for ticketed events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Another major piece was the reorganization of our student senate.\u00a0We increased the senate to 45\u00a0members, reflecting the name changes of the colleges that were done this past Spring.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SGA and the University Honors Global Scholars Program recently\u00a0launched a new partnership. Samuel Myers, a freshman accounting major from Eclectic, Alabama, was appointed to represent the program and now holds a spot in the presidential cabinet.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThrough this partnership, we hope to find more ways to involve the University Honors Global Scholars’ program in campus life and further cement ourselves as a staple of academic success,\u201d Myers said. \u201cWe want Troy to be known for its academics.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe program also hopes to make a lasting impact on the people around us by connecting Alabama to the rest of the world.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After one full semester of being SGA President, Smith believes the organization’s biggest accomplishment is not a piece of legislation or bill.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur biggest accomplishment is the activity of our senate and our SGA as a whole,\u201d Smith said. \u201cI\u2019m very thankful for having a very proactive and passionate senate and cabinet.\u00a0They\u2019ve been taking on new ideas and new initiatives and that\u2019s why we\u2019re getting things done.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
