TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Over the break, Troy introduced the Accelerated Master of Science in Nursing (AMSN<\/a>), which allows students with non-nursing Bachelor’s degrees to graduate with a nursing Master’s degree in just four semesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Those who hold a bachelor’s degree in some other area who are looking for a career change or need a career change, this is an opportunity for them to become a nurse if they ever aspired to be a nurse in a relatively short period of time,” said Dr. LaGary Carter, Dean of the College of Health Sciences<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program was made in response to the nationwide nursing shortage, which affects Alabama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We feel strongly that we need to get more nursing out into the communities,” said Representative Chairman Paul Lee. “Whether it’s in the hospitals, clinics, or even the nursing homes. It’s a shortage across the board.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Everything we can do to put people back in the work force as a nurse is going to be huge for Alabama and for the nation as a whole,” said Jeff Brannon, Vice President of Business Development at Flowers Hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Lee, the value of the degree will be immediate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The value of more nursing just opens up the opportunity for people to be able to expedite their care,” Lee said. “The physicians, they’re looking for great nurses that are dependent, that know their stuff, that are very well trained and are there for them to support them.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
