(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 While many New Year\u2019s resolutions fade, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/student-life-resources\/campus-recreation\/rec-center.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trojan Fitness and Wellness Center<\/a> is working to help students stick to healthy exercise habits throughout the semester.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-gy99q33179\">Georgia Bagdonas, a sophomore global business major from Huntsville, Alabama is a personal trainer and fitness instructor at the rec center. Bagdonas believes healthy habits start in the mind before they start in the body.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-53ery33181\">\u201cIt&#8217;s about discipline and teaching yourself that the gym is not just a hobby or something that you can do in your free time,\u201d Bagdonas said. \u201cIt&#8217;s something that must become a lifestyle.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-s95zj33183\">According to Bagdonas, consistency and volume are essential to making progress in the gym.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-muodc33185\">\u201cIt\u2019s all about being consistent, even showing up on days that you don&#8217;t want to,\u201d Bagdonas said. \u201cA lot of my clients say, \u2018I feel like I work out a lot, but I don\u2019t see results.\u2019&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-3q1ng33187\">\u201cIt\u2019s important that you push yourself to the highest level. It\u2019s important that you\u2019re increasing the weight or running a further distance, even just a little bit, every time you work out.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2026\/01\/20\/troy-to-add-new-accelerated-masters-program-for-all-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>RECENT NEWS: Troy to add new accelerated Master\u2019s Program for all students<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-9ppab33189\">Bagdonas said setting achievable milestones, especially with an accountability partner, helps students maintain a consistent fitness routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-luf4u33191\">\u201cI think finding someone that you can come to the gym with that can hold you accountable makes things fun,\u201d Bagdonas explained. \u201cOn those days when you&#8217;re not really feeling like going to the gym, your partner is there to motivate you.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-teosg33193\">The rec center also offers group fitness classes for students who may feel overwhelmed by traditional gym workouts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-exgzs33195\">\u201cFinding something that works for you is very important,\u201d Bagdonas said. \u201cI know a lot of people can be intimidated by coming in here and lifting weights or maybe cardio.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-sjhg933197\">\u201cSomething that I would encourage people to do is to take advantage of the classes we offer here at Troy. For example, let\u2019s say you want to get into lifting weights, but you&#8217;re not very confident in it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-4za6w33199\">\u201cI would say trying one of our body pump classes. You&#8217;re going to be doing lower weights, but higher reps of things.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-qtv2033201\">\u201cThat class is really going to teach you that technique. All our classes in general are high in energy, and you can go at your own pace.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-gwh8233203\">Micah Kennington, a junior marketing major from Spanish Fort, Alabama has his own fitness goals for 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-gwh8233203\">\u201cLast year, around the holidays, I looked in the mirror and I realized I needed to get back to the gym,\u201d Kennington said. \u201cSince then, I\u2019ve been consistently going to the gym for about a year.\u00a0I was 215 pounds, now I\u2019m down 160 pounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-gwh8233203\">&#8220;My goal for this year is to build my muscles back up.\u00a0\u00a0I&#8217;m trying to get better at cooking and eating the right things.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-s5p1l33211\">Eric Vance, a freshman undecided major from Moody, Alabama has similar aspirations.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-ifm0n33213\">\u201cI love the gym,\u201d Vance said. \u201cI\u2019ve been consistently going for around a year now. I\u2019ve been trying to see how big I can possibly get. I for sure didn\u2019t start out the biggest.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-uzjzo33217\">\u201cSeeing my progress in the mirror definitely keeps me going.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"viewer-1zyrz33219\">Students interested in group fitness classes can register through the IM Leagues app. Semester access costs $30, while day passes are available for $2.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
