TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy University’s Office of Career Services<\/a> is connecting computer and science students to potential employers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As graduation approaches, many college students begin facing the pressure of finding internships, work-study positions, and full-time jobs. For juniors and seniors at Troy University, that process can feel overwhelming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To help ease that transition, Monday afternoon, Career Services helped host the Computer Science and Technology Career fair. The event focused on students in the College of Science and Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduate assistant Vrund Shah said the goal of these fairs is to create meaningful connections between students and employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCareer fairs like this and all other career fairs are an opportunity to connect with employers within different industries,\u201d Shah said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By hosting college-specific fairs, organizers ensure students meet companies that align with their academic programs and career goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA lot of the people in there are really welcoming and informative,\u201d student Austin Jenkins said. \u201cThey give you a lot of information. I just had to put a whole bunch of stuff down\u2014they give you a lot of stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to collecting promotional materials, students had the chance to speak one-on-one with recruiters. In some cases, those conversations led to students receiving personal business cards and follow-up opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shah believes now is the ideal time for students to begin preparing for their careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEmployers are looking for fresh people to hire, new perspectives, new ideas, and new technological skills,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For students like Jenkins, the event highlighted the university\u2019s commitment to helping bridge the gap between college and the workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Office of Career Services will continue hosting career fairs throughout the semester. The next event, the Sorrell College of Business Career Fair, is scheduled for March 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the department offers \u201cWorkshop Wednesdays,\u201d held weekly through April, covering topics such as r\u00e9sum\u00e9 building, interview skills, and professional networking.
