TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy Softball beat every team it faced off against in the Trojan Classic, finishing the series 4-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of the Trojans’ victories ended in mercy rule, and their lone loss of the week to Chattanooga was preceded by a Trojan shutout of the Mocs the day before. Senior pitcher Esmee Ames said the work in the off-season led to the dominant performance from the Trojans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’ve been working hard, all of us,” Ames said. “The confidence that these girls here give me and the work that we put in, seeing it every day at practice like that gives not just me but all of us a really big confidence boost at the beginning of the season.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team had a combined batting average of .452 over the weekend with 48 runs scored. One player that led the team to these marks was junior utility player Makaley Boswell, who had seven hits and eight runs on the weekend, something that head coach Eric Newell says inspired the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“She’s such a quiet leader, but everyone loves Bos,” Newell told TrojanVision. “She’s a clutch player, defensively, offensively. She can do it all, she can play anywhere on the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Her confidence, her as a player, the team loves her. They respond to her, and we need Makaley Boswell for the long haul.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troy now moves to play its next home series this weekend in the Cardinal Clash. The Trojans’ first game will be against Central Arkansas Friday at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
