TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Troy University’s Psychology Club<\/a> sold sweet treats\u00a0for a\u00a0sweet purpose\u00a0in their\u00a0recent bake sale with profits going to the\u00a0Pike Regional Child Advocacy\u00a0Center<\/a> (CAC).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it’s good to just get out and do something,\u201d said Justin Hendrickson, a junior pyschology major from Enterprise, Alabama. \u201cWe don’t help them directly, but we give the money to the people who can help them.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center is a facility where abused children can\u00a0receive\u00a0free support services such as forensic interviewing,\u00a0counseling\u00a0and family advocacy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We love community involvement, and we like spreading awareness in the community,\u201d said Kaley Green, director of the CAC. \u201cThings like the bake sale help to do those things.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Events like the bake sale also help the CAC continue to offer services free of charge. Events also increase awareness about the center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “My favorite part is to talk to people about the child advocacy center and tell them about it and also do treats and stuff for the kids,\u201d said Soleil Copeland, a sophomore criminal justice major from Dothan, Alabama.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Picking up a sweet treat allows students to support their community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “It helps to involve not only our community, but it brings in everybody because the university is such a huge part or our community,\u201d Green said.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“One of the things I’ve learned being at Troy university is part of being a good, if not a great student is it’s always nice to give back to your community,” said Kalibb Jackson.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With\u00a0April\u00a0being child abuse awareness\u00a0month, more\u00a0activities\u00a0will be aimed at\u00a0benefitting\u00a0the\u00a0CAC.\u00a0Specifically,\u00a0Kappa Delta\u00a0will\u00a0have\u00a0a\u00a05K where 80% percent of profits go to\u00a0the CAC.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
