(<a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Students and faculty gathered in the Lamar P. Higgins Ballroom inside the Trojan Center for a first-of-its-kind event\u00a0Thursday afternoon.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Troy University <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troy.edu\/student-life-resources\/groups-organizations\/student-government-association\/troy-sga\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student Government Association<\/a> (SGA) held its first-ever State of the Student Body address. SGA President Caleb Smith, who is a senior risk management insurance major from Gadsden, Alabama, along with university leaders,\u00a0focused on one central theme \u2014 transparency.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTransparency means talking about everything that&nbsp;SGA does,\u201d Smith said. \u201cThat includes things that&nbsp;we\u2019re&nbsp;passing, events that&nbsp;we\u2019re&nbsp;holding and plans&nbsp;we\u2019re&nbsp;making&nbsp;for the future.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had so many students who were here today&nbsp;who&nbsp;are&nbsp;not involved&nbsp;in&nbsp;SGA,&nbsp;and they wanted to&nbsp;come see&nbsp;what it was all about.&nbsp;Getting people, who not only know&nbsp;what&nbsp;we\u2019re&nbsp;doing, but getting them involved in what&nbsp;we\u2019re&nbsp;doing&nbsp;is what we want.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the address, Smith highlighted several major accomplishments&nbsp;over&nbsp;the&nbsp;past&nbsp;year, including reorganizing the&nbsp;student&nbsp;senate and hosting a successful homecoming week.&nbsp;According to Smith, his favorite accomplishment is when students and organizations come to the SGA to get something done or share&nbsp;new ideas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>University administrators also took part in the&nbsp;address.&nbsp;Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr., Associate Dean of Student Services Dr. Korrie Lynn&nbsp;Williamson&nbsp;and Senior Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Sohail&nbsp;Agboatwala&nbsp;all&nbsp;praised Smith and the SGA\u2019s commitment to serving students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2026\/02\/25\/new-agreement-creates-engineering-pathway-from-escc-to-troy-university\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>TOP STORIES: New agreement creates engineering pathway from ESCC to Troy University<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCaleb&nbsp;[Smith]&nbsp;and I have talked about where Troy is headed,\u201d Sohail said. \u201cOne of the points Caleb wants to make&nbsp;is that&nbsp;he wants everyone to know that the SGA is a central student organization on campus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is not to serve the SGA&nbsp;senate;&nbsp;it is to serve all students.&nbsp;Caleb and his senior leadership staff and the whole senate&nbsp;have&nbsp;done an excellent job at that.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hawkins echoed the message of transparency and emphasized the role of leadership in uniting the campus community.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLeadership does require transparency, and I think real leadership is about bringing people together and not dividing them,\u201d Hawkins said. \u201cI know that\u2019s what you all are dedicated to and we are to at the University administrative level.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smith said&nbsp;serving as SGA president has been an honor and hopes the&nbsp;state of the&nbsp;student&nbsp;body&nbsp;address becomes a lasting tradition.&nbsp;Elections for executive officers will be held March 4, and students can vote through their Troy Outlook email from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can watch the State of the Student Body address in its entirety on TrojanVision&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Q9vDjPUulSM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YouTube page<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
