TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 After a grueling week filled with elections and voting, Troy’s Student Government Association (SGA) invited students to practice their dance moves with a drink in hand.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The air was full of laughter, fizz and fun as the SGA brought students together for footwork and fizz on Thursday night.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether it was a\u00a0Shirley\u00a0Temple or a dirty\u00a0Dr. Pepper, people were still getting down and dancing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy favorite part about being here tonight is getting down on the dance floor and hitting line dances no doubt,\u201d said Isaac Smitherman, a freshman political science major from Locus Fort, Alabama. “I love just even if I don’t know one, someone knows one and you can always learn from them so it’s a good time.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0Dances ranged from “Boots on the ground” to\u00a0“Wobble,” and a little bit of everything in between.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a way for students to get out of their dorms and connect with each other, regardless of their dance skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0“I am really uncoordinated, so\u00a0it’s\u00a0really funny because I make a joke out of it the whole time, and it makes everyone crack\u00a0up,” said Faith Crawley, a junior K-6 collaborative ed major from Brantley, Alabama. \u201cIt just breaks the ice and makes it a lot easier to talk to people you\u00a0haven’t\u00a0talked to before.”\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the night went on, the dance floor got more crowded. More students were able to meet their SGA officers, make new friends, and have a good time.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe’re all in SGA so we have a ton of senators and freshman forum delegates here,\u201d said Emma Claire Kirchharr, a sophomore financial economic major from Uriah, Alabama. \u201cThese are people that advocate for their student needs and things that they want and so it’s a way for them to know that we are students too and so they can meet with us and talk with us through a fun event like line dancing. ” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SGA has other events coming up as well where students can meet members. Next week, one of those events will be academic excellence week where students can learn about healthy study habits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
