TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 Amid Troy softball<\/a>\u2019s hot start to its 2026 season, freshman pitcher Abby Lovell<\/a> has shined from the circle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet her journey to Troy didn\u2019t start with just a lifelong dream. Instead, it started with her big sister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy sister actually began playing softball when she was younger because her friends were playing,\u201d Lovell said. \u201cI like to do everything that she did and I kind of just started playing softball and it kind of clicked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was about eight or nine, so it really just started and kept going from there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What began as curiosity turned into a calling. Lovell played at Northside High School, where she holds the win and strikeout record, with over 600 in her time. Her next big decision of her career was waiting, as college was just around the corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring my recruitment process, which was junior year of high school, I got some emails and texts from a bunch of different schools, but Troy really stook out to me,\u201d Lovell said. \u201cWhen I came on my visit, we came to a football game, and we toured the campus and it just felt like home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI committed about thanksgiving of my junior year, and it\u2019s been amazing since.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The moment she stepped on campus, Lovell said she found a sisterhood, a mentorship, and support both on and off the field. With the addition of Elizabeth Hightower, a two-time college world series participant, Lovell has been able to have a smoother transition to the college softball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe girls are awesome; I love them so much,\u201d Lovell said. \u201cWe do everything we can together and spend so much time together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEveryone is so pleasant and we click together so well. College is harder than anything I\u2019ve ever experienced. But coach Hightower has really poured into me and just helped me have a good mindset going into things, even when things are hard, she\u2019s been there with me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What started as something that \u201cjust clicked\u201d became her passion, and with the support from her team and coaches, she\u2019s just getting started.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
