TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 In its fifth power four conference matchup of the season, Troy baseball<\/a> dropped its weekend series against Maryland at Riddle-Pace Field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trojans took the series opener over the Terrapins with Tommy Egan<\/a> setting the tone with five scoreless innings and Aaron Piasecki<\/a> slamming a three-run blast in the bottom of the third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trojans Zaid Diaz<\/a> and Nolan Book<\/a> brought in two more runs, extending the lead 5-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maryland scored two runs in the ninth, but Dylan Alonso<\/a> stepped in for Troy and closed the door with his third save of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday, the Trojans gained an early lead, 3-2, but were held scoreless for the remaining six innings as a solo home run in the third and a single in the fifth helped Maryland regain the lead. The Terrapins went on to secure five more insurance runs in the last three innings to take the game 9-3<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe got to be better,\u201d said head coach Skylar Meade<\/a>. \u201cYou got to know where to execute your pitches, where you can win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI just think there needs to be a little more win in our early game stuff. You put a bad juju on it when that keeps happening over and over and over so, we will have to change some things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday was a similar story, but the Trojans showed fight as they held a lead with four runs in the fourth and kept the Terrapins scoreless in the first five, Maryland came back with six runs in the eighth and ninth innings to take the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meade says having to use Alonso on Friday to secure the win ultimately put them at a disadvantage going into the two remaining games<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what cost you today,\u201d Meade said. \u201cThat is really problematic and I hope it\u2019s a gut punch to every person in the program to realize the importance of every single thing we do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
