(<a href=\"http:\/\/today.troy.edu\/TROJANVISION\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TROJANVISION<\/a>) \u2014 A group of Troy residents now have a better understanding of how the city&#8217;s emergency response, narcotics and weapons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That understanding stems from the third session of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.troyal.gov\/police\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Troy Police Department<\/a>&#8216;s (TPD) Citizen&#8217;s Police Academy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Margarita Mesones-Mori, one of the weekly attendees of the Citizen&#8217;s Police Academy,\u00a0just moved to Troy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy husband was in the military, the army, for 20 years,&#8221; Mesones-Mori said. &#8220;He retired and 16 years after he&nbsp;retired,&nbsp;they called him back into active-duty service at Fort Rucker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;He said yes and so we had to move someplace.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once they landed on Troy and&nbsp;settled into their new home,&nbsp;Mesones-Mori&nbsp;began looking for ways&nbsp;to&nbsp;learn about her new community.&nbsp;That\u2019s&nbsp;when she found&nbsp;TPD\u2019s Citizen\u2019s Academy. As it turns out,&nbsp;the academy has&nbsp;also helped her find comfort in her new town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTo me it helps a lot because I come&nbsp;from&nbsp;a big city where there\u2019s a lot of lights and here it\u2019s very dark so it\u2019s very scary for me,&#8221; Mesones-Mori said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.troy.edu\/trojanvision\/2026\/04\/09\/tpd-give-up-close-look-at-patrol-tactics-during-citizens-police-academy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>ICYMI: TPD give up-close look at patrol tactics during Citizen\u2019s Police Academy<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TPD&nbsp;Captain&nbsp;Bryan Weed said that providing that comfort, like they did for Mesones-Mori, is one of his main goals for the series.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was born here in Troy, I have lived here my whole life, so I know what a wonderful place it is,&#8221; Weed said. &#8220;When someone else moves here and we can make them more&nbsp;comfortable&nbsp;and make them feel like this is their home,&nbsp;that\u2019s&nbsp;exactly why&nbsp;we\u2019re&nbsp;doing this citizens academy.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Session three highlighted each individual branch of TPD\u2019s&nbsp;Special Operations Division, which included the following.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emergency response<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crisis negotiation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Narcotics control<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>K-9 units (used for detection of drugs, weapons, people, etc.) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Explaining and discussing each individual branch allowed&nbsp;participants&nbsp;to see that TPD is ready for any scenario.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHopefully they\u2019re never a victim of crime but,&nbsp;you know, if they ever need us or if they know someone that is a victim of crime, then they can have some comfort that we will be a very professional agency&nbsp;and hopefully come to a quick resolution,\u201d&nbsp;Weed said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s&nbsp;that&nbsp;diversity of services that gives Mesones-Mori confidence that she will be fully and fairly kept safe under TPD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe come to&nbsp;conclusions&nbsp;too fast,&#8221; Mesones-Mori said.&nbsp;&#8220;Knowing that you need and open mind and that there might be an answer better than the one you think keeps you on check and it keeps other people safe.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next\u00a0session\u00a0of the Citizen&#8217;s Police Academy will feature TPD\u2019s\u00a0criminal investigations unit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TROY, Ala.
