TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — The Trojans came back to beat the Nicholls St. Colonels 38-20 in Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
After falling behind by as many as 10 points early in the season-opener, Troy rallied, scoring 28 points in the fourth quarter to take back control of the game.
“I think we know what we have in our locker room. [We have] a lot of great leaders, a lot of great voices. We stayed resilient,” said starting quarterback Goose Crowder. “No one turned their back on anybody. We played complimentary football in the second half, but [I] couldn’t be more proud of how we responded.”
Crowder played a pivotal role in the comeback, lighting up the scoreboard with one rushing touchdown and three passing touchdowns, including a late fourth-quarter strike to put the game away.
The Trojans’ running game was also key, as sophomore running back Tae Meadows ran for 186 yards and a touchdown. Meadows broke away for a 47-yard scamper in the fourth to help increase the Trojans’ lead.

“It was no surprise to us. He has practiced that way since spring,” said Head Coach Gerad Parker about Meadows. He prepared really well and has the intangible traits of being a really good back for us, and he showed it tonight.”
Troy’s offense was not the only side of the ball that filled out the stat sheet as the defense stepped up as well. The Trojans sacked the quarterback four times, and transfer Junior cornerback Jaquez White picked off the Colonels, which would eventually lead to a touchdown for Troy.
The Trojan faithful stood by their team and made sure they were heard as they cheered their Trojans to victory.
“The students came out deep tonight, and we are going to need it for the next five games we have during the season,” said Parker about the fans that packed the Vet.
Parker continues, “A spirited crowd, the firework show was unbelievable and kept us going. The students showed out, and I’m going to have to give them some hugs over at that cafe when I see them for fried chicken on Wednesday.”
The Trojans will be back in action Sep. 6 as they travel to Death Valley to take on the number 8 Clemson Tigers. This game will start at 2:30 p.m. on the ACC Network.
