TROY provides assistance to military students amid government shutdown

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — As the government shutdown continues, Troy University is working to help its military students continue paying for class.

With the government shutdown passing the two-week mark, government employees are feeling the results of the shutdown. Included in that group are military members, who are not only going without pay but are also not receiving their free tuition from the government. Troy University has stepped in to help these service members.

“Due to the government shutdown, all TA requests from all service branches have been cancelled,” said Scott Brumbeloe, Troy’s Director of Military and Veteran Affairs. “Those currently enrolled in Troy with their courses that are utilizing tuition assistance cannot receive financial funding for them.

“For the duration of the shutdown, we are providing tuition assistance for those students so that they can continue their education plans uninterrupted.”

Troy’s announcement comes as TROY for Troops continues to reassure its students.

“It’s certainly an uncertain time as far as what will be passed down from Congress, which makes it a very stressful time, especially for the students who are participating in the courses,” Brumbeloe said. “There’s been a lot of calls and a lot of questions for Troy for Troops.

With term two classes now covered, military students are now being instructed to continue attending classes.

“We’re telling students to continue to check their Troy emails and follow through. We will be communicating with them personally for what steps they need to take,” Brumbeloe said.

This new scholarship is temporary and will only cover term two classes. The announcement also comes after the U.S. News and World Report announced Troy as a Top 25 College for veterans.
