TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy softball wrapped up the Trojan Invitational going 3-1 at the Troy Softball Complex.
Troy started the weekend with a run rule win over Furman, 11-2, and then falling to Nicholls, 6-5, despite a late rally from the Trojans.
“We kind of fell behind and did some things that may be a little uncharacteristic of us,” said head coach Eric Newell. “But that is good for us in a way, not that we are ever going to accept losing, but you can’t hardly replace the tough games and those tough environments.”
The Trojans bounced back day two, when they took down Omaha, one of the top mid-major teams in the country, in a two-day matchup due to weather. Abby Lovell starred in the circle against the Mavericks, spinning a shutout to the undefeated offense with 13 strikeouts and two hits.
“I just stay true to myself,” Lovell said. “Going right at the batter and trusting myself, my defense, and coach Hightower.”
Dailynn Motes also shine against Omaha as she slammed a home run in the bottom of the sixth to put the Trojans on the board and keep them on top.

“Coach Newell and I, and a lot of our team, talk about all the time how it is much bigger than the game,” Motes said. “We are going to give glory where glory is due.
“I mean yes we put in the work and everything, but I would not be where I am if it wasn’t for the Lord today, so I am just grateful.”
Troy then earned its tenth run rule of the season in a second matchup against Furman to end the tournament. The Trojan Invitational ended a three-week streak of home tournaments for the Trojans, going 12-2.
