The Talk of TROY – ”‘Medea: A Greek Tragedy‘ & The ‘Spooked‘ Tradition” – October 22nd, 2021

This week, Troy University’s Department of Theatre and Dance is staging a production of “Medea: A Greek Tragedy”. As Host Marissa Lacey tells us, the classic story stars a mother who seeks revenge on her unfaithful husband.
And, just in time for Halloween, TROY Public Radio is airing a marathon of scary stories from Snap Judgment’s “Spooked” Podcast. “Spooked” Host Glynn Washington always warns listeners: “Never ever, ever, ever, never ever, ever turn out the lights.” But, as Cody Skelton reports, it’s an annual tradition for members of the TPR staff to listen to “Spooked” together… in the dark.

The Talk of TROY – ”HSJC‘s 50th Anniversary & ”Reimaging the Everyday” – October 15th, 2021

As Guest Host Cody Skelton reports, Troy University’s Hall School of Journalism and Communication is celebrating half a century of training journalists. To commemorate the occasion, the Hall School of Journalism unveiled its new slogan, “Shaping Ethical and Trustworthy Communicators”.
And, “Reimagining the Everyday” is the newest exhibit in TROY’s International Arts Center on the main campus. The artist, Janet Nolan, died in 2019, and as Producer Conner Howell reports, the message of her work lives on in this exhibit.

The Talk of TROY – ”Assistant Dean Todd‘s Syrup Farm & Sites of Conscience” – October 8th, 2021

As Cody Skelton Reports, Assistant Dean of the Sorrell College of Business Dewey Todd is the newest recipient of the Alabama Retail Association bronze medal for Retailer of the Year for businesses with annual sales of $1 million and under.
And, TROY’s Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery is hosting the latest installment in the Real Talk Community Forum series next week, and as Producer Conner Howell reports, the topic will be “Sites of Conscience.”

The Talk of TROY – ”KICK COVID & Memorial” – October 1st, 2021

To help keep football fans safe, Troy University is partnering with the Alabama Department of Public Health and The Bruno Event Team for KICK COVID, a testing and vaccination campaign.
And, TROY Associate Professor of Theatre Quinton Cockrell has written a new play titled Memorial, which has recently been featured in the Human Rights New Works festival.

The Talk of TROY – ”9/11 Memorial Football Game & The Remnant Trust Collection” – September 10th, 2021

Every year, Troy University devotes a football game to the U.S. military, but this time, they’re also commemorating the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11th, twenty years ago. And as Conner Howell reports, several events are planned.
Troy University’s library on the main campus is hosting an exhibit from Texas Tech University’s Remnant Trust Collection, and Producer Cody Skelton reports this exhibit is user-interactive.

”College Colors Day & Lamar Higgins Scholarship” – September 3rd, 2021

As Cody Skelton reports, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has declared September 3rd as College Colors Day in the state, and Troy University’s mascot T-Roy is joining in on the celebration.
And, Host Marissa Lacey presents one of our favorite stories from this summer, now with higher quality audio: Troy University is creating a new scholarship in honor of its first black board of trustees member, Lamar Higgins, who died earlier this year.

“The Yellowhammer Film Fest and The Final Trojan Minute” – July 23rd, 2021

“‘America’s Original Sin’ and The Trojan Minute” – July 16th, 2021

“America’s Original Sin” is Willie Little’s new art exhibit tackling the subject of slavery in the United States and issues of social justice. And as Host Marissa Lacey reports, it is currently on display at Troy University’s Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery.
And, in this week’s Trojan Minute, we hear from Govind Menon, who studies intense jets of radiation and particles that form in supermassive black holes.
