TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Over the weekend several important figures in Trojan Athletics history were enshrined forever in the 11th Troy Sports Hall of Fame Banquet.
“I’m very excited,” said inductee Carl Hollis. “Wondering was it true or somebody was playing a joke on me. It was very exciting. Overjoyed me.”
There were seven total inductees in the 11th class, which included Mike Amos, a member of the 1965 and 66 football teams. He is also known for being an ardent supporter of Trojan Athletics for the last 50 years.
Other inductees included Sherill Busby (Football), Rhodney Donaldson (Men’s Basketball), Chris Force (Women’s Golf), Carl Hollis (Men’s Basketball), Barbara Sherwood (Softball), and Mark Smartt (Baseball).
“The facilities were good back then for division two athletics, they’re fabulous now,” Smart said. “This arena speaks to it. It’s fabulous. The baseball facility going through a great renovation. It’s going to put it at the top of the curve in the Sunbelt Conference. The football stadium is fabulous.”
Banquet attendees were treated to a meal before watching videos honoring each inductee as they were enshrined. The voice of Trojan Athletics, Barry McKnight, served as host and Chancellor Jack Hawkins gave a speech honoring Troy Athletics and all of their inductees.
“This town is growing and is excited,” Amos said. “Look out people, here comes Troy.”
