Students travel to South Alabama for Battle for the Belt

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Tuesday afternoon, Trojan fans headed to Mobile to cheer on Troy Football as it takes on South Alabama during the “Battle for the Belt.”

“We’re going there to cheer on our trojans,” said senior Derrick Nobles. “Cheering them on so that we can get that win.”

“It’s our big rivalry and rivalry games always just have a certain energy that you can’t get at any other football game,” said freshman Vanessa Bell. “I’m really excited.”

While the Trojans are set to go, they are also set to see a victory. As the buses pulled up, students shared what they were looking forward to most.

“I’m just looking forward to having a good time and rooting for Troy,” said freshman Ty Campbell. “It’s going to be my first away game, and I really hate South Alabama.”

“I’m looking forward to the football game the most because it’ll be my first USA against Troy game,” Bell said. “I’m really excited to see how we play with our rivals.”

Troy has seen success against its rival for the past seven years. Fans hope this year’s game will be no different.

“Troy is a very young team,” Campbell said. “With that said, I think with South Alabama being our rival, our team’s going to step up and come out with a victory.”

“It’s going to be a really good game,” Bell said. “I have a couple of friends at South, so I really want the Trojans to come out on top. That way, I can say that we are the best.”

Just like some of the students attending the game, this will also be Head Coach Gerad Parker‘s first Battle for the Belt.
