TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Members of Sigma Tau Delta and Spectrum Alliance gathered in Smith Hall to share queer literature with personal meanings.
“I hope that the audience got a chance to share literature that was meaningful to them,” said Sigma Tau Delta Co-sponsor Anna Orlofsky. “Whether it was literature they care about or whether it’s something that spoke to their own experiences.”
The read-in was one of Sigma Delta’s many events where people read different types of literature they want others to know about. This read-in was created with the queer community in mind.
“Literature is one of the ways that you can sort of expand your perspective on different topics and ideals,” said Spectrum Alliance President Kris Harrell. “One of my goals for this event was for students to be able to learn more about the community, both through historical fiction, fiction with queer themes, queer characters and sometimes even LGBT authors.”

The read-in marked the last event of the semester for Sigma Tau Delta. However, members plan to hold more collaborative events in the future.
“We love readers and hearing what what literature matters to people and what authors mean a lot to people or even the people’s own work that they want to share with others,” Orlofksy explained. “That’s kind of the big thing. Come and read. We like freaking out over our favorite literature together.”
