Trojan Spotlight: TUPD works to keep campus safe

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — In a world without superheroes it becomes a team effort to make everyone’s day as smooth as possible. A big part of TROY’s team is its campus police department.

“You have to be on your toes sometimes,” said Troy University Police Department (TUPD) officer Andrew Garrett. “Most of the time we’re riding around checking buildings, interacting with students and faculty members, unlocking cars and stuff like that.”

Sometimes, though, urgency is needed in order to keep TROY faculty, staff, and students safe.

“Campus police had come over and told us to like move and go some place safer,” said students Ashton Gilbert. “We didn’t even know what was going on but all we saw was campus police getting there as quickly as they could.”

On TROY’s campus, help is just a phone call away, for problems both big and small.

“I got locked out of my dorm and I needed someone to call at the time and the police department was right there when I needed them,” said student Kacee Holmes. “They helped lug all my stuff to my dorm, too.”

TUPD officers are under the command of Police Chief George Beaudry, who came to Troy in 2020.
