Teenager arrested after being connected to Troy University shooting

 

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — A teenager is behind bars after being connected to a shooting that happened on Troy University’s campus.

The Troy University Police Department (TUPD) has charged a teenage boy from Troy with second degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. The suspect is believed to have fired the shot that injured a female student. The student sustained a foot injury, was treated, and has since been released.

The shooting took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30. According to police, the suspect was arrested Friday morning by officers with TUPD, the Troy Police Department and the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

The arrest was the result of a joint investigation between the University and City police departments. Troy University Police Chief George Beaudry credited the partnership between the agencies as a key factor in the quick resolution of the case.

“The local knowledge and years of experience of the Troy Police Department team tipped the scales in our favor and helped us identify a suspect,” Beaudry said.

At last report, the suspect, whose identity has not been released, is being held at the Pike County Jail.
