‘South Hate Week’ sweeps through Troy University’s campus

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Days before the Troy Trojans took on the South Alabama Jaguars, Troy students were already expressing their disdain for the school down south.

“I’m excited to see south lose drastically, because my sister goes to South and I wanna rub it in her face,” said student Rebecca Brown.

“The heat, the rivalry,” student Brock Humphrey said. “It’s gonna be a good match up. Two good teams going at it. Troy came off with a good win in Buffalo, so, going into a biweekly game, we have time to prepare. I’m looking for the competition, it’s gonna be a fight so I’m ready.”

Last year, South marked out all the “T’s” around their campus. This year, Troy is fighting back by crossing out the “S’s” in everything, from signs to sidewalks. Students shared what they are most excited about for the upcoming game and what it means to unite against South.

“The atmosphere,” student Collin Sheperd said. “It is the atmosphere and everybody being there to watch Troy beat South. It’s a tradition.”

“I love that we’re uniting as one college against South and showing our spirit on the sidewalks, where we chalk messages to South in this game and we tape all the “S’s” across campus,” Brown said.

Students are ready to band together and defeat South this weekend.

“I love it, you know? Students showing the spirit for the game,” Humphrey said. “It’s important if we’re all into it to support the football team. Get everyone there to pack the vet. It’s gonna be a huge game, so I’m into it. Go Troy, cry havoc!”
