TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy University’s soccer program is under new leadership.
Troy soccer welcomed new head coach Jake Wyman earlier this semester. Wyman went 78-36-17 at Montevallo University.
While there, he led the Falcons to the 2019 Gulf South title. He would also win the Gulf South Coach of the Year Award and South Region Staff of the Year the same year.
In recent years, he led Montevallo to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments, and three total in his six years at the school. However, he and his family felt it was time to move on to the next big challenge.
“As far as the decision to extend my coaching career and bring my family to Troy, it was an easy decision,” said Jake Wyman. “We want to be coaching, and from a player’s standpoint, you want to be playing at the highest level, and we want to take the next step in our lives.”
Before his time as a coach, Wyman was a player on his college team, the Coker Cobras, for four years. There, he learned valuable nuances of the game that help him be a coach today.

“As a player, it is completely different,” Troy’s newest coach said. “You are on the field and on the physical side of it. You are doing all the running and all the work.
“Now, on the coaching side, you are more tactful. You are doing all of the thinking, planning and preparing. I think it just helped me with understanding the game and how I wanted to play the game.”
Although this might be his first season here, Wyman has set his team a high goal for the upcoming fall season.
“I think another expectation we have is that we need to find a better identity for ourselves and who we are as a team, and the brand we want to play,” Wyman said. “Those are the off-field expectations for us. As for on the field, we are trying to make that Sunbelt Tournament and get ourselves down to Foley.”
Wyman and the Trojans have started their spring practices and exhibitions, preparing for next season.
