TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy University’s ArtSPARK is giving families a chance to get creative.
From painting to exploring a giant interactive camera, families had plenty of ways to get creative Saturday morning at Troy’s International Arts Center (IAC).
“This is ArtSPARK,” said Carrie Jaxon, IAC Director/Curator. “This is a community program we’ve had going since 2021. Today we are creating camera sculptures with our families and our children.”
ArtSPARK brought families together for a free morning of art and activities at Troy University.
“It’s a monthly event,” said Rebekah Alexander, teaching artist. “We try to get together monthly. It’s free for families.
“It’s meant to get families and little ones together to create art in a fun museum environment. We also have scavenger hunts.”

This event featured an art project with Alexander, inspired by the work of a photographer and artist Pinky Bass.
“Pinky Bass is an amazing Alabama photographer,” Alexander explained. “Since a lot of her work encapsulates the camera itself and the mechanics of that, we decided to make our own little box cameras.”
Along with creating art, families could check out a giant interactive camera that takes part in a scavenger hunt and enjoy other activities throughout the morning.
“[The] art scavenger hunt opens the the door to them really investigating the artwork and kind of taking a closer look at what we have on display,” Jaxon said.
ArtSPARK’s next event has not been announced. Dates will be posted on the IAC’s website and Instagram.
