TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Fall is here, which means flu season is on its way.
That’s why Troy University’s Health Center is encouraging all students to receive their vaccinations.
“It really isn’t flu season yet, but it is time to get your flu shot,” said nurse practitioner Jacque Chorico. “The season is coming up, closer to the winter months, so you want to get your shot at least six weeks or longer before flu season hits.”
For greater accessibility, the Health Center offers walk-ins for all students and staff to receive their flu shots at a low cost, depending on insurance.
“We are giving a flu shot everyday from Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” Chorico said. “You do not have to have an appointment, you can just come walk in and we’ll be glad to give you the flu shot.

“There is a small cost if you do not have insurance, but if you do have insurance, it will cover the flu shot.”
Some students may be skeptical about possible side effects from being vaccinated. Chorico addressed the common misconceptions she receives.
“People are scared because they say they get the flu after getting the flu shot every year. Each year is supposedly a different formula to match up to the research done on the next year’s flu, so you cannot get it from the flu shot.”
Whether or not you are at risk of developing influenza, the Health Center encourages you to receive the vaccination.
