Troy University alumnus Katie Hawkins Beall lay in a Maryland hospital bed in need of a liver transplant to live.
“I had maybe 24 to 48 hours to live,” she said. “My doctor came in and said, ‘You need to say goodbye to your children.’ I knew that I had no choice but to live for those children.”
The next day she received the call that a donor liver was available. Beall, the daughter of Troy University Chancellor and First Lady Jack and Janice Hawkins shared her transplant experience with TROY students and members of the community on Sept. 19 during two presentations at the Troy Campus.
