Troy University alumnus and trustee, Forrest S. Latta, has been named the 2025 recipient of the President’s Award by the Alabama State Bar Association—an honor presented at the Bar’s 148th Annual Meeting in July. This prestigious award recognizes an Alabama lawyer who exemplifies the Bar’s motto, “Lawyers Render Service,” demonstrating outstanding dedication to both the legal profession and the public.
“Troy University has been blessed by Forrest Latta’s leadership and dedicated service to his alma mater,” said Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. “He exemplifies the values of excellence, integrity and commitment that we hope to instill in every Trojan, and we are proud to see him honored with this prestigious award.”
Latta, a 1980 summa cum laude graduate of TROY, is a partner in Burr & Forman LLP’s Mobile office, where he chairs the Appellate Practice Section. He has handled more than 300 appeals, including high-profile landmark cases addressing constitutional limits on punitive damages.
In addition to his role on the TROY Board of Trustees, Latta has been active in community and professional leadership. He currently serves on the Alabama Board of Bar Examiners and the Alabama Rules of Evidence Committee, and he is a past president of the Mobile Bar Association.
