Terri Adams, Departmental Secretary for the School of Nursing, has won the University’s Vergil Parks McKinley Award.
Adams received the award from Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, during a ceremony on Thursday at the Troy Campus. She was nominated by Dr. Wade Forehand, Director of the School of Nursing.

The McKinley Award is the highest honor that Troy University gives to a non-faculty staff member. It is presented quarterly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by the late John McKinley, former Texaco CEO, in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a Troy University professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the University’s athletic program. Winners of this award receive an engraved clock and a $1,000 stipend.
Dr. Forehand said Adams embodies all of the characteristics the award represents.
“Terri has a servant’s heart when it comes to her interaction and dedication to her daily duties,” Dr. Forehand said in his letter of nomination. “She is always positive, smiling and has friendly words to share. She strives to ensure all tasks are completed at the highest quality, going above and beyond in the presentation of information she has organized and developed on behalf of the department. She personified kindness and grace.”
Dr. Forehand said Adams’ love and support for TROY goes beyond her job.
“Terri proudly supports TROY outside of her job duties,” he said. “On any weeknight or weekend, you will likely find Terri at a sporting event in support of our athletes or at other University-sponsored activities. Terri’s reach extends beyond her job as she represents Troy University well. She is a part of the Troy University family in more than just her professional role.”
Adams said she was honored to receive the award.
“I am truly honored to be selected to receive the McKinley Award,” Adams said. “I am thankful to Dr. Forehand and all my coworkers within the School of Nursing. We provide support and encouragement for one another. We are more than coworkers. We are a family, and I am grateful to be a part of this family.”
