Shaniece Shaffer receives the Vergil Parks McKinley Award for the third quarter of 2025 from Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr.

Shaniece Shaffer, Assistant Director of the Academic Evaluation Center (AEC) at Troy University, has been awarded the University’s Vergil Parks McKinley Award.

Shaffer, a member of the AEC staff since 2012, was presented with the award by Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, and was nominated by Donna Bragg, Director of the Academic Evaluation Center and Associate University Registrar.

The McKinley Award is the highest honor that Troy University gives to a non-faculty staff member. It is presented quarterly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by the late John McKinley, former Texaco CEO, in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a Troy University professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the University’s athletic program. Winners of this award receive an engraved clock and a $1,000 stipend.

“First and foremost, Shaniece is a very intelligent, dedicate and dependable employee,” Bragg said in her nomination. “She performs her duties with extreme efficiency and accuracy. Secondly, she is tremendously intuitive and identified well with students’ transfer credit and academic program needs. Finally, Shaniece works extremely well with her fellow employees and provides invaluable guidance when it comes to daily tasks and AEC goals. I truly feel she is deserving of this employee award because of these qualities and her accomplishments.”

Shaffer said she was honored to receive the award.

“Receiving the McKinley Award is such a great honor. I absolutely love being a part of the Troy University family and being able to help as many students as I can,” she said. “I would like to thank Donna Bragg for believing in me from day one and teaching me everything that I know.”
