Beyond A War to air Nov. 7 on Alabama Public Television at 8 p.m.

"Beyond A War" featuring TROY Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., will air Nov. 7 on APT.

“Beyond A War,” the moving documentary portrait of university presidents Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., and Dr. Lê Công Cơ, will make its U.S. television debut Thursday, Nov. 7, at 8 p.m. on Alabama Public Television.

Produced by Duy Tan University, “Beyond A War” has opened to awards and praise in Vietnam. The film made its U.S. debut during a premiere event on Sunday, Sept. 29, at Troy University’s Davis Theatre in Montgomery. Now, viewers across Alabama will be able to see the film on their local APT station, or streaming on the APT website and the PBS app.

“’Beyond a War’ provides great insight into the Vietnam war and how far the relationship of the people of Vietnam and the U.S. have come in the five decades since. We’re excited to share this inspiring story of healing and of a partnership that serves students in both countries,” says APT Executive Director Wayne Reid.

More than 50 years ago, Dr. Hawkins and Dr. Lê Công Cơ were on opposite sides of the Vietnam War. Hawkins served as platoon leader in the U.S. Marine Corps and Lê Công Cơ fought against American forces as a member of the Viet Cong.

Today, they lead Troy University and Duy Tan University, respectively, and are working together to ensure a brighter future for students in both the U.S. and Vietnam. “Beyond a War” captures their personal stories of combat and survival during the war, and their drive to bring about change through the power of education and international collaboration.

Following the APT debut, the film can also be seen on TROY TrojanVision and on the Troy University YouTube channel.
