A $150,000 grant to the Troy University Police Department will result in safer surroundings on the Troy Campus.
Provided through the U.S. Dept. of Justice, the money will be used to add CCTV cameras at Veterans Memorial Stadium, purchase a mobile camera trailer for additional coverage during University events, and enhance the personal safety equipment for TPD officers.

“We are appreciative of Senator Tuberville and the work he did to secure DOJ funding for University Law Enforcement agencies across Alabama,” said TUPD Chief of Police George Beaudry. “This enhances the safety of our campus for our students and visitors alike.”
The project is intended to be a proactive step at protecting the campus from an active shooter standpoint and other major crime prevention.
In 2023, three separate mass shootings occurred on college campuses in the United States, and incidents of other gun-related crimes have seen a sharp uptick on campuses throughout the country.
“The surge in violent gun-related incidents on other campuses led us to conduct an internal security audit,” Beaudry said. “In the course of the audit, several deficiencies were identified, including a lack of responsive and protective equipment and video surveillance at specific locations.”
The grant will cover initial remedies to those deficiencies and will provide TUPD officers rapid-response enhancements that ultimately will lead to a safer campus for all, Beaudry added.
