Troy University’s Sorrell College of Business will bring the 2017 GEEK Fest to the square in downtown Troy this Friday, Sept. 8.

The annual event, sponsored by Troy Bank and Trust, is a partnership between the college and the City of Troy. It lasts from 7-10 p.m. and features a concert performance by The Park Band.

Additionally, students who register at the event will be eligible to win a $500 book scholarship thanks to Barnes and Noble.

“GEEK Fest is an awareness campaign to inform our current and future students of the SCOB’s mission to graduate students that are GEEKS: Globally aware, engaged with the business community, ethical decision makers, knowledgeable to compete, and successful,” said Tara Morelock, development coordinator for the Sorrell College of Business. “We do this while celebrating the student body here are Troy University and within the Sorrell College of Business.”

GEEK Fest is a tradition within the college, one that helps connect students and faculty.

“We hope students will take this time to learn more about opportunities within the SCOB such as potential majors, internship opportunities, study abroad opportunities, student organizations, business engagement, alumni engagement and employment opportunities,” Morelock said.

The event is preceded by Geek Week, which begins Wednesday with meet-and-greet sessions with students in the atrium of Bibb Graves Hall. Thursday marks the 26th Annual Accountancy Day within the Sorrell College of Business, while Friday features a Donuts with the Dean event from 9-10:30 a.m. with Dr. Judson Edwards.
