Troy University welcomed nearly 1,500 new students to the Troy Campus from June 9 through July 15 for IMPACT, the two-day orientation that covers all aspects of student life at TROY.
During IMPACT, incoming freshmen and transfer students take photos for their student ID, attend a browse session featuring opportunities to get involved around campus, visit academic departments, meet faculty and register for classes. They also get to learn gameday chants from TROY’s head coaches and enjoy a night of ziplining, kickball, canoeing and more at Butter and Egg Adventures.
“IMPACT is important for all incoming students because our objective is to aid them in their transition during their first year at TROY,” said Emily Dapprich, Director of IMPACT. “Throughout their time at IMPACT, we provide activities such as departmental visits, campus involvement browse session, camp games, advisement and registration for their Fall semester, and, most importantly, quality time for them to gather with other incoming students – all in the hopes that our objective is represented. Overall, we hope that incoming students leave IMPACT feeling included, prepared and eager to return in the Fall!”
Damiya Matthews, an incoming freshman from Wetumpka, Alabama, said she loved the energy of IMPACT.
“It was very engaging. Everyone was super nice, and I found it really cool how much everyone loved getting to know each other,” she said. “My favorite moment was T-Time; it was really fun, a lot of energy with everyone celebrating starting a new journey.”
Planning on majoring in criminal justice and minoring in legal studies, Matthews said she chose TROY because of the distance to home and that she’s eager to start classes with the new friends she’s made at IMPACT.

“It’s not too far away to where I can’t go back home, but it’s still a good enough distance to feel like I’m branching off on my own,” she said. “(College) is going to be a very different schedule than high school. I get to make my own schedule, and I’m excited to see how well I manage that and to start this new journey.”
Leah Mabien, an incoming freshman from Morrow, Georgia, said her experience at IMPACT eased some of the nerves associated with attending college for the first time.
“My favorite moment was ziplining and being able to meet some of the faculty associated with my major,” she said. “I love the campus, and it’s going to be interesting when it’s full of students. I’m excited, but I’m also nervous. Being at IMPACT has helped a lot with that nervousness because I’ve been able to familiarize myself with the major places on campus like the cafeteria, the dorms and some of the buildings I’m going to be in.”
Mabien will be attending TROY with her twin brother, Dalton, and encourages other students to attend IMPACT before coming to campus.
“It’s so important to get a vibe for what’s going on and getting to stay in the dorm really changed my mind set on coming to college,” she said. “It helped me realize like, ‘Wow, this is realty where I’m going to be for the next four years.’ It made me feel more prepared.”
Parents are also invited to attend Parents Orientation free of charge and are provided with information on student services, expenses and how to assist their student in transitioning to college. They also have the opportunity to meet with selected faculty members and current TROY students.
A Last Chance IMPACT session is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 11. During this session, students will register for Fall Semester which begins on Aug. 13. To register for Last Chance IMPACT, click here.
