Troy University’s International Arts Center will host TROYAPALOOZA, the annual student celebration and costume party, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

This free event, open to all University students, faculty and staff, will be held on the plaza behind the IAC and in the amphitheater at Janice Hawkins Cultural Arts Park, located behind Rushing Hall. TROYAPALOOZA is among a long list of celebrations leading up to TROY’s homecoming game on Nov. 2.

TROYAPALOOZA will feature a concert by POPulus, the University’s popular music ensemble made up of students from the Music Industry Program. Attendees can also enjoy t-shirt screen printing, a photo booth, interactive art, an inflatable obstacle course and rock wall, a Halloween costume contest with prizes, and a variety of food options including hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, pizza, funnel cakes, and fried Oreos.

Now in its fourth year, TROYAPALOOZA has brought together numerous campus organizations and departments to support the arts-focused event. Students and professors from the Department of Art and Design organize t-shirt screen printing where attendees can make their own TROYAPALOOZA shirts. Photography students run a photo booth complete with props, and the Collaborative Studio class will have a vibrant interactive art project for an extra special arts experience.

“The International Arts Center recognized a wonderful opportunity to bring the TROY family to the IAC and the neighboring Janice Hawkins Cultural Arts Park after COVID,” said Carrie Jaxon, Director and Curator of the IAC. “Through collaborative organizational efforts between the IAC, the Department of Art and Design and UAC, we’ve been able to create a multi-activity event that grows each year, sponsored by a long list of generous university collaborators. It showcases the amazing POPulus and the talented art and design students, offering a variety of free fun activities aimed at our university student population.”

TROYAPALOOZA is sponsored by Troy University, the International Arts Center, the Department of Art and Design, Troy University Library, the John M. Long School of Music, the College of Communication and Fine Arts, Student Services, the University Activities Council, the College of Education, International Student Services, and the SGA. The marketing design for the event was created by student and IAC staff member Alex Ashendorf.

Students will also have the opportunity to create their own screen-printed TROYAPALOOZA t-shirts.
