Phenix City Schools Superintendent to address Troy University graduates on June 6

Campus Vice Chancellor Dr. Dionne Rosser-Mims addresses last year's commencement ceremony. This year's ceremony is set for 7 p.m. (EST) on June 6.

Dr. Janet Sherrod, Superintendent of Phenix City Schools, will deliver the commencement address to graduates from Troy University’s Phenix City Campus at 7 p.m. (EST) on June 6, at the Columbus Georgia Convention and Trade Center.

Between 80 and 100 graduates are expected to take part in the ceremony.

Born and raised in Pickens County, AL, Dr. Sherrod’s academic journey led her to attain an impressive array of qualifications, including a Doctorate of Philosophy in Education from Hampton University, an Educational Specialist in Education Administration from the University of Montevallo, a Master of Education in Mathematics Education from the University of West Alabama, a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education from Tuskegee University, and she is a proud graduate of Aliceville High School.

Dr. Sherrod’s has more than three decades of experience in the field of education, including roles ranging from mathematics teacher to assistant principal, principal, director of student services, and executive director of learning supports. Among her many achievements, she is celebrated for her transformative tenure as the principal of Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School. Under her visionary leadership, the school emerged from a challenging situation and was successfully removed from the failing list, a testament to her steadfast commitment to students’ academic success.

With her appointment in 2023, Dr. Sherrod became the first African American and female superintendent of Phenix City Schools.
