Pied Pipers return to Dothan on Jan. 30

January 22, 2018

Troy University’s children’s theater group, known as the Pied Pipers, will return to Dothan for a free performance at the Dothan Opera House on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

The show, which starts at 6 p.m., is aimed at children in third grade and younger.

For more than 40 years, the Pied Pipers have performed for young audiences with shows that entertain, educate and delight with story, song, dance and spectacle.

This performance is part of TROY Tuesdays, a recurring series of performances in Dothan from TROY’s College of Communication and Fine Arts.

The ensemble consists of TROY students from the University’s Department of Theatre and Dance.

“They do a collection of familiar folk tales and stories, and it’s really high energy,” said TROY Department of Theatre and Dance Chair Tori Lee Averett, who directs the Pied Pipers.

Armed primarily with colorful costumes and their own abilities, the performers tailor their shows to a child’s attention span.

“We’ve had several generations of Pied Pipers who have gone around the state of Alabama and the southeastern United States performing in communities for young school children, primarily pre-K through 3rd grade,” Averett said.
