Troy University’s Risk Management and Insurance Program has been recognized by the A.M. Best Company as one of the top 20 RMI programs in the country.
“Best’s Review” wanted to see which college programs were preparing students for a career in the industry. The company solicited responses from readers and industry professionals, who named 272 collegiate programs and interviewed hiring managers and human resources professionals at 28 of the largest insurance carriers and brokerages.
Of those responses to their seven-question survey, 100 universities stood out but 20 were singled out. Troy University was one of just five schools to make the survey’s “Contenders” list – and one of just two in the southeastern United States to be included. A “Contender” may not have a full-fledged RMI program but is producing industry-ready graduates, according to the publication.
“The RMI program continues to grow, both in numbers and reputation, by successfully connecting the educational experience of our students with the insurance industry,” said Dr. Judson Edwards, Dean of the Sorrell College of Business. “This integration, inside and outside the classroom, produces RMI graduates which are in high demand because they are well-prepared, ready to make a positive impact on day one of their employment.”
TROY’s program is one of just a few RMI programs nationally that allows students to focus on excess and surplus lines, and involves students in a variety of network-building and industry activities such as the University hosting the Wholesale and Specialty Insurance Association’s Excess and Surplus Lines Symposium each year. A host of other activities ready graduates for entry into the profession at a higher level.
“The payoff for that can be seen in TROY’s job placement rate of 98 percent,” the publication stated.
A.M. Best is the only global credit rating organization that focuses on the insurance industry. Best’s Ratings are a recognized indicator of insurer financial strength and creditworthiness. It also provides insurance data and market intelligence, covering thousands of companies worldwide through analytical resources and news coverage that provide a critical perspective for informed business decisions.
For Dr. Ed Duett, the accolade by one of the most respected rating firms in the world means TROY’s program is doing what it is intended to do: turn out graduates who are top in their field, ready for the job market and who have a global view of the industry.
“We want our students to be prepared to succeed in the global marketplace, and Best validates what we’ve known – and what those who hire in the industry know – that Troy University students are among the top graduates,” he said.
