School of Music to host annual Guitar Festival

The only event of its kind in Alabama, the festival offers students the opportunity to interact with guest artists and peers from around the region.

Troy University’s John M. Long School of Music will host the 12th annual Guitar Festival on Feb. 20. The only event of its kind in Alabama, the festival will feature concerts and master classes from guest artists, competitions and an awards ceremony. 

The ensemble and chamber music concerts will feature student groups from the region, as well as a blended ensemble for all participants. The competition portion of the event will involve different age groups, including elementary, middle school, high school, and college/artist. The winner of the college competition will be asked to return for next year’s festival to host a masterclass and a concert.

The guest artists for this year’s festival are Adam LevinDr. Adam Kossler and Dr. Susana Frade Machado and Cesar Herrera, who was the winner of last year’s college competition. TROY’s Professor of Guitar and Music Theory Dr. Robert Gibson will continue to serve as the festival’s director.  

Those interested in attending can fill out the registration form by Feb. 6.
