The Troy University Intramural Speech Tournament, organized by the Hall School of Journalism and Communication (HSJC), was held on Feb. 12 in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor. Jameson Speece, a communications major, was named the overall winner and earned a $500 scholarship.
Participants had three to five minutes to give an informative or persuasive speech that also included their original work and used at least one source. Speece gave a persuasive speech on how to give good compliments.
“Winning the competition means reward for hard work, connection with peers and professors and an opportunity to share and learn from others,” he said.
Dr. Ava Tabb, a lecturer of journalism in HSJC, served as the coordinator for the event.
“It’s a pleasure to coordinate this event and work with students from different majors and backgrounds,” she said. “This can be a valuable addition to a resume, demonstrating strong communication ability and criticalthinking skills.”
A total of six students participated in round one, while four finalists were selected to return for round two to compete for the $500 scholarship.
