Troy University’s Surveying and Geomatics Sciences Program recently won the Surveying Education Award, valued at $10,000, from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.

The national award is presented annually by NCEES to recognize surveying programs that best reflect the organization’s mission to advance licensure for surveyors in order to safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of the public.

The society encouraged all of the programs to market themselves to students and show the quality of the education provided, says Dr. Steve Ramroop, Director for the Surveying and Geomatics Sciences Program.

“They look at how the program is performing in terms of academics, recruiting students and also certification of faculty,” Ramroop said.

TROY previously won the award in 2016.

Dr. Ramroop said they are considering investing the award to use for scholarships and program development later on.

“We are in the process of exploring our possibilities right now,” he said.

There will be a ceremony later this month where Dr. Steve Ramroop and Dr. Xutong Niu will accept the award.

The NCEES is a nonprofit organization made up of engineering and surveying licensing boards from all U.S. states and territories and the District of Columbia. NCEES helps its member licensing boards carry out their duties to regulate the professions of engineering and surveying and develops best-practice models for state licensure laws and promotes uniformity among the states.
